A Legacy of Innovation
CSL Water Quality, Inc. has been at the forefront of commercial and residential water treatment solutions for nearly a century. Founded in 1930 in Newark, New Jersey as Carbon Solvents Laboratories, we started as a manufacturer of solvents, cleaners, and degreasers, including SLATEX, a blackboard cleaner that restored slate surfaces. As our focus shifted toward boiler and heating system maintenance, we developed chemical treatments to improve efficiency and longevity in steam heating systems.
Evolving With Industry Needs
The post-World War II era brought significant changes to fuel sources and water treatment. In 1950, we relocated to Kenilworth, New Jersey, adapting to the shift from fuel oil to natural gas in boiler systems. Our product line expanded to include water treatment chemicals that kept heating systems clean and free from corrosion and deposits.
By the 1970s, CSL Water Quality, Inc. became an integral part of the industry's shift from traditional inhibitors like chromates and phosphates to more sustainable alternatives such as molybdate and multifunctional polymers. We also played a role in the formation of the Association of Water Technologies (AWT), a key organization dedicated to research, education, and certification for water treatment professionals.
Our Commitment
In 1986, we rebranded as CSL Water Treatment, Inc., reflecting our growing focus on water-side treatment solutions. Around this time, our TruTest Division was established, offering certified laboratory services for residential and commercial water quality testing, microbiological analysis, and product quality control.
As our capabilities expanded, TruTest was integrated into the parent company, leading to the name we carry today-CSL Water Quality, Inc. This name represents our adaptability, deep expertise, and continued commitment to providing safe, effective, and compliant water treatment solutions.
